Posts: 521 05/10/08 16:44:57	Tags : None We have over 200 members that belong to this board..Some are just drop byes and some stay! I wonder how that compares to other message boards? I like to think that this is one of the best around but I am still curious as to the people that have just one post or reply?..What happens (or happened) to them? I was just looking around and reading some of your profiles..very interesting in the least! I wish more people would fill one out, at least somewhat. I like to know where someone lives! Maybe I am too nosy? ......

Posts: 105 05/10/08 23:26:46	Having participated on many messageboards (both Vegas and non-Vegas related) over the years, I've noticed that they all have a few things in common: 1. They all have a core group of regulars who tend to post often . 2. Some who pop in, post a question, and then you never see them again! 3. Lurkers, who generally out number all of the regulars and infrequent posters combined . In regards to profiles, privacy is always a big concern when it comes to public message boards on the internet. I'm very careful on how much personal info I include and I rarely post pictures of myself on public boards. However, I also like checking out members profiles and seeing where everyone is from, as well as their interests, hobbies, etc. So, I usually include that kinda info on my profiles . " Obviously I wonder about this too Mick. Especially when it is someone I was pretty friendly with at OV and they come over, say hi and disappear. I think it has to do with the fact that we are ALL creatures of habit. If we enjoyed something, we tend to repeat it. They are used to going to ONE site (or 2) and it is hard for them to break that habit. I understand that. I am the same way.... One thing (Hopefully there are others...) we have going for us is that when people come over for a visit, they can see that there are a lot of familiar names around here. I know if I visit another board and recognize some names I am more inclined to return. (Also I try to always welcome them warmly!!) But some people just want a bigger, more populated board. I understand that too.

I like to see people's profiles, too, and obviously some are more detailed than others for whatever reason (privacy, time, familiarity w/the web, etc.). But I respect everyone's need for privacy, and if they don't want to share personal info or decide to lurk because they are uncomfortable or unsure of the "new space", then I respect that, too. I think I lurked at LVTalk/OV for at least 4 months before I finally got brave enough to set up a profile and start talking - and this board hasn't even been around that long yet! I think it will just take time. I don't think any boards build a huge following overnight. We just need to keep spreading the word and hope people come here to stay for awhile. I also think ShelbyMustangGuy is definitely right on the money in his post.

I lurked around on T2V quite a while before I started posting and I still don't post much over there, and LVA - shoot - those folks will eat your lunch, so I'm pretty quiet on that board. I posted on OV a lot until all the ruckus last winter and now I don't even lurk there much any more. Soooo, this board and ELV are the only ones that get much attention from me. AND a lot of you folks don't know me, but I'm trying to get to know you. We're gonna have a great time - I can feel it in my bones. I think you've done a bang-up job, Bonnie, muh girl. I ticks me off that you and I went to a meet together and we never even talked beyond HI. We didn't know then all that would transpire afterwards. I know what you mean about LVA. The only place I post there is in Trip Reports. I think the T2V (Vegasmessageboard) is the best website out there, IMHO. EverythingLV is a nice friendly little place too. I like how clearly the board is laid out there. What OUR future holds remains to be seen!

There are a few people here who can probably explain, very clearly, and SIMPLY, what we have to do....so they can read all about us! Oh, I'm not blonde either, but perhaps I have been spending too much time around one? (Not Bonnie, as SHE catches on pretty quickly!). So remember teachers, VERY SIMPLY WRITTEN instructions.
