Dunes Implosion |
Lead | ||
|
As some of you remember, I posted on a thread about being in Vegas when Wynn took out The Dunes, staying at the old Aladdin. I finally found 4 of my old pics
of that implosion. Here's the first 2 and if that damned Photobucket will ever let me download the last 2 (one of which is a real winner) I'll post
them too. Keep in mind these were taken with an old disposable camera that had a zoom option while I was hanging out of the window in my room at the Aladdin.
So from that distance and a cheapo camera I don't think these turned out too bad.

Jack, I hope Photobucket lets you complete the download for the other two photos - how cool to be there when The Dunes
came down AND capture it on film! Awesome!

Weird..wasn't it? We went down to see it and I stuck around for awhile until the crowds were way too much and then I went back to our room and watched it
on TV....
If we would have had a room in a strip Casino/Hotel where we could have watched it from the window..fine..otherwise it was not my cup of tea!!.....

Ok, here's the last two and the hell with it. I know they'll not be cropped right, but photobucket is giving me fits right now. The last one is a real
classic and a lotta luck on my part. I snapped it at the very second the explosive charge went off to take the Dunes sign down.

Actually...they ARE cropped right. Even when you make
them message board size, you still have to scroll just a tiny bit to see the whole pic. When someone doesn't resize it to Messageboard....you have to
scroll a LOT more.
Very cool historic pictures Jack! THANKS!! |

Okay, Jack, that Dunes sign implosion photo is great! It always makes me feel good when I time a photo like that just
right. Awesome job!

The next day I ran into Steve Wynn and in passing I hollared at him....
"Steve, just one more time yell FIRE!!" All he did was laugh and continue on his way... ...

irishmick wrote: Yes, Wynn did put on an extravaganza. It was very insightful to incorporate TI's Britannia into the festivities. There's one pic I can't find.
For anybody that saw the implosion or replays of it there were way more pyrotechnics (for show) than were needed for the actual implosion. I got one pic of all
of the floors on fire (stricly for show) before the various charges on each floor detonated, bringing the whole thing down.

Jezzz..I feel as if I am posting on this topic too much but....Do you remember (as Jack stated) there was way more hoop-a-la about this and the explosions than
need be?
There was made for TV movie that incorporated the implosion into it and had a lot of the action as part of the TV movie? I can't remember the name, nor even who was in it, but I am sure Wynn made a couple of bucks back because of it!......
